TILE FACTORY
Toureen recently delivered a new build Tile production facility for Wienerberger in Sittingbourne. The facility is to significantly increase their production capacity by enabling it to develop more tile formats to meet increased demand.
The teams have been working tirelessly over the past few months to achieve some key milestones, including the installation of a new silo utilising a 750-ton crane, the vortex chamber which forms part of the curing process of the tiles, and the commencement of the steel frame and the plant erection.
Toureen Remediation has also been involved in the project, improving the soil that was already there, to provide a suitable ground layer for the slab to sit on. The gravel layer beneath the slab was dug out and mixed with cement. This stabilised the soil, limiting any settlement within the gravel layer. This meant that no concrete or grout was required on site for the columns, saving large quantities of carbon-intensive material, equating to roughly 2,872 T CO2eqv.
This method had the additional benefit of completely eliminating the waste removal requirement from site from soil arisings. Installing columns would have created waste as soil would have been displaced which would have required approximately 800 muck away lorries.
