T2 HOTEL, HEATHROW
Toureen was appointed Principal Contractor for the construction of the 755-room Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn Express hotels at Heathrow Terminal 4. The project included major enabling works such as service diversions, deep drainage, piling, underground tanks, directional drilling, and a specialist tower crane base. All works were completed within a live airport environment while maintaining safe and uninterrupted airport operations.
Toureen was appointed as Principal Contractor for the development of two hotels directly connected to London Heathrow Terminal 4. The adjoining hotels, Crowne Plaza London Heathrow Terminal 4 and Holiday Inn Express London Heathrow Terminal 4, provide a combined total of 755 guest rooms.
As Principal Contractor, Toureen delivered a comprehensive scope of enabling and infrastructure works to facilitate the successful completion of the development. These works included extensive service diversions across both landside and airside areas, requiring close coordination with Heathrow Airport Limited (HAL) and utility providers to ensure uninterrupted airport operations.
The project also involved the installation of deep drainage systems, necessitating the use of heavy plant equipment in close proximity to live services. Concrete piling works were carefully managed through a detailed logistics strategy designed to prevent overloading of buried services and minimise ground pressure from piling rig movements.
Toureen also carried out the installation and diversion of critical services, with certain operations scheduled during night-time hours to reduce disruption. Additional works included the installation of underground reinforced concrete and prefabricated tanks, as well as directional drilling from within the site boundary beneath the main carriageway serving the Central Terminal Area and all airport terminals.
A major engineering element of the project was the construction of a tower crane base designed to support one of the largest capacity cranes operating in the UK at the time.
Toureen successfully delivered these complex works within a live airport environment, maintaining safety, operational continuity, and programme performance throughout.
