GURNELL LEISURE CENTRE
Following Ealing Council’s plans to revitalise the 1970s Gurnell Leisure Centre, Tilley & Barrett were commissioned to undertake the demolition phase of the project. These works will pave the way for a major new leisure complex designed to deliver modern, high-quality health and fitness facilities for the local community.
The redevelopment will feature a 50-metre swimming pool—set to become one of only three publicly accessible indoor 50m pools in London—alongside a climbing wall and state-of-the-art gym. The new centre will also include an enhanced wet leisure area with a waterpark, slides and a lazy river, as well as exercise studios, a soft play area and a café.
Beyond the main facility, the scheme will introduce a range of outdoor amenities, including a new skate park, cycle pump track, outdoor gym and children’s playground. In line with wider sustainability goals, approximately 450 trees will be planted across the site to enhance green space and support local biodiversity.
The demolition itself reflects a strong commitment to circular economy principles, with materials carefully reused and recycled wherever possible. In addition, legacy sports and swimming equipment has been collected and donated to local community groups, charities and schools, ensuring continued social value beyond the life of the original facility.
