SPACE HOUSE
Space House was a large-scale, complex project involving multiple challenges across several levels. The scope includes infilling and extending the existing single-storey rotunda by two additional floors, infilling service voids and lightwells to create additional development space, and undertaking structural modifications to the office areas facing the Strand Underpass.
Toureen took possession of the site, securing and stabilising it following the previous enabling contractor’s works. Demolition within the rotunda is undertaken above live electrical switchgear that feeds the main Central line at Holborn Underground station, as well as adjacent retail areas, requiring careful planning and execution.
Extensive temporary works are designed and delivered by Toureen’s in-house engineering team, ensuring the stability of the rotunda during structural alterations. This enables subsequent infilling and construction activities to be carried out safely and efficiently.
