Zoo Day at Hanwell
Zoo Day at Hanwell
We’re always looking for meaningful ways to give back, and sometimes that leads us to unexpected places… like the zoo.
As part of our ongoing social value commitment to Ealing Borough Council – in connection with our work on the Gurnell Leisure Centre project – a group of our team volunteered for the day at Hanwell Zoo.
The team rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in: clearing an animal enclosure overgrown of all brambles and nettles and replacing an outdated primate structure that was not fit to swing on.
Thanks to the team for bringing their energy and teamwork to something so different from their day jobs – and leaving behind a space the animals can really enjoy.

About the Gurnell Leisure Centre Project:
Following Ealing Council’s plans to revitalise the 1970s-built Gurnell Leisure Centre, Tilley and Barrett were appointed to carry out the demolition phase. This will pave the way for a new, state-of-the-art leisure complex featuring; a 50-metre indoor swimming pool – one of only three open to the public in London, a new skate park, cycle pump track, outdoor gym, and children’s playground, and 450 new trees to enhance biodiversity and preserve green space.
This project is also a strong example of circular economy in action – with materials being reused or recycled wherever possible, and old sports and swimming equipment donated to local charities and schools.
