Toureen Inspires Future Talent at Bristol Construction Site

Toureen welcomed a group of students from Winterbourne Academy to its Bristol project this July, providing a hands-on insight into the wide range of career opportunities available within the construction industry.

The visit took place at Toureen’s Bristol site, where the company is working in partnership with the University of Bristol and Sir Robert McAlpine (SRM) as part of a major regeneration scheme to deliver a new campus development. Once completed, the site will accommodate around 4,600 students and 650 university staff, creating a hub where education, research, business and community partners can collaborate to address some of the world’s greatest global challenges.

Over the course of a full week onsite, 11 GCSE students from Winterbourne Academy gained valuable real-world experience by learning directly from professionals working across the project.

Each day, students met Toureen’s in-house specialists from a variety of disciplines, including project management, health and safety, engineering, commercial and sustainability. These sessions were followed by practical demonstrations showcasing key construction activities such as cube crushing, crane operations, steel fixing, bricklaying and concrete works.

To conclude the programme, students were challenged to apply everything they had learned by designing and building a bridge capable of holding the highest number of concrete blocks. The challenge was met with enthusiasm and creativity, with students impressing project teams through their teamwork, problem-solving and determination.

Toureen described the week as a rewarding opportunity to inspire the next generation, encouraging students to ask questions, explore career pathways and put new skills into practice.

The company also thanked the wider Toureen and SRM project teams, along with Winterbourne Academy, for helping make the initiative such a success.

Toureen remains committed to supporting education, skills development and creating opportunities for future talent within the construction industry.
