Demolition works are well underway at the new Wembley Campus development on Olympic Way, Wembley Park, which will provide a modern learning environment for students at the College of North West London.

Toureen Group’s specialist demolition division, Tilley and Barrett, was appointed to deliver the demolition package for the £92 million development. Following the completion of asbestos removal, soft stripping, de-planting and temporary works, structural demolition is now progressing on site.

Sustainability and resource efficiency have been key considerations throughout the project. Opportunities have been identified to reuse and repurpose materials wherever possible, including raised access flooring and glazing, helping to reduce waste and maximise the value of existing resources.

The demolition methodology has also been designed to minimise environmental impact. Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) has been adopted as the baseline fuel across the project, while electrically powered robotic demolition equipment is being used as the primary demolition solution.

In addition, concrete arisings generated during the works are being processed for reuse as piling mat material and temporary fill. Any surplus material is transported to Toureen’s recycling facility, where it is processed into 6F2 and Type 1 recycled aggregates for use across wider Toureen Group projects.

The project is targeting 99% landfill avoidance, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainable construction practices and the circular use of materials.

As works continue, the project represents another example of Toureen’s focus on delivering complex demolition projects safely, efficiently and with sustainability at the forefront of decision-making.
