Toureen Retail complete Morrisons' Petrol Station transformation
The project at Morrisons, Sheldon, was a complete knock-down and re-build of a closed down fuel station.
Appointed as Principal Contractor by Morrisons, the 17 week project commenced with the demolition of the existing petrol station and the removal of both the existing canopy and existing car wash on site. The project also required the concrete forecourt surface to be removed, exposing six existing storage tanks to be extracted from below ground. The removal of the existing storage tanks allowed for the concrete base slab to be broken out in sections to aid environmental testing works and soil remediation to be carried out as per Environmental Health Officer directives.
The existing storage tanks had to be removed to facilitate the installation of two new storage tanks. This led to the reconfiguration of the site to a four pump starter gate and the installation of a brand new forecourt and a new shop fit-out to complete Morrisons’ specifications.
Originally this project was scheduled to start four years ago but some difficult challenges arose that the team had to overcome. Toureen Retail and the client dealt with significant delays such as issues with S278 approval that was required to completely transform the run down and dilapidated premises into a fresh and modern petrol filling station, located in East Birmingham.
Toureen Retail used their wide range of knowledge and expertise to successfully complete the knock-down, re-build project on time, within budget and to the required specifications. The transformation was completed and the newly revamped petrol filling station was handed over to the client in August 2018. Toureen Retail successfully delivered the project to its usual impeccable standards and was well received by Morrisons.
